Marriage Monday: Understanding Capacity
Savage020 Jill Savage: Marriage Monday: Understanding Capacity
Every individual is created differently. We experience different personalities. Different needs. Different capacity levels. Today's Marriage Monday explores the conception of content in marriage.
Mark says...
Dictionary.com defines capacity as "the power to do or withstand.

Jill and I use the condition in our union to draw our general energy level and our power to manage multiple projects at the same time.

Jill says...
Mark describes me as the Energizer Bunny. I rarely tire and take a huge capacity.
Mark says...
Sometimes just watching Jill wears me out. I take more of a medium capacity.
Jill says...
This difference used to get us crazy until we were able to pronounce it and so see how to sail it in our relationship. One of the things I had to take is that I do not operate independent of Mark. I may cause a higher capacity than he does, but if I am always operating at my full capacity level, it begins to affect Mark negatively. I give to correct my activity level to what's better for our marriage-not merely what works for me.
Mark says...
When we were first married, I felt like I needed tokeep up with Jill. Ithought there was something wrongwith mebecauseno matter how difficult I tried, I couldn't. I'm almost always tired sooner than Jill is. I get stressed managing 3 projects when it takes managing 6 or 7 projects to stress Jill out.
However, when I learned around the conception of having differentcapacities, I accomplished that I was simply wired differently than Jill. There wasn't something amiss with me at all. I simply needed to see my emotional and physical makeup andlearn how to betrue to myself.
Jillsays...
Mark's lower capacityactually brings a counterpoise to my "Type A driven high-capacity" personality. He travels at a slower speed through life than I often do, so it's right for me to dumb down a bit. His lower capacity is part ofwhat makes hima good listener. That's something I can definitely learnfrom!
Mark says...
And Jill's higher capacity sometimes inspires me to achieve something that I might only be prepared to put off or find overwhelming.
Jill says...
Our different capacities used to torment me, but now I better realize that they are only one more way that God made us different. And different isn't wrong.it's just different!
What most you? Do you and your partner have different capacities? How have you navigated those differences?
