Hip Hop High with Savage - Nerdy Frames

hip hop is one of those genres that bowed low to the last common denominator that it could ever condescend to which is their outright marketing towards the teenage market hence why you see Dawn Raid acts like Blast and The Deceptikonz on programs like C4, MTV NZ and Juice TV. They have no secret that their intentions are to preserve their profile high on popular rotation and most likely to cash out their artists at the danger of damaging Local NZ Hip Hop's credibility.
'Hey its fat, fat and fatty'
I acknowledge that a lot of mass from my neighborhood considered Hip Hop as their mainstay of music food, but you got to understand that Hip Hop is not the only genre of medicine that people living in South Auckland are listening to nowadays. In fact the try has evolved and gotten broader, but hey those shitty media types think we're niggers but yet we aren't!
There was a sentence that Local Hip Hop was in fact at its height of perfection within the other to late 90s, an era that I grew up in. We had Sisters Underground, DLT, Che Fu, Ermehn and Dam Native! I bet that these aforementioned artists from my era would definitely frown upon what has become__local hip hop, but hey lets continue!
'Awww the clean kid thinks its black people'
I should run down the synopsis huh, basically Savage and his rotund lackeys from Dawn Raid Entertainment (founders Brotha D and Andy "YDNA" Murnane) infiltrate an Otago High School in Dunedin to learn a class (pfffttt hahahaa) of unisex teenagers the art of Hip Hop or as I wish to call__crap!
You live there is something familiar about this premise, like__I`ve heard it from another appearance with a rapper turned actor teaching some prep school scholars in New York the elements of hip hop_.what was it called?.oh yeah `Ice-T's Rap School!` it`s the same fucking premise! Wow talk almost the want of originality in television eh?Yeah there you go, it`s obliviously Ice-T`s Rap School except it`s with a rotund rapper and his retinue that acts American and a out of work TV presenter Nathan Rarere doing narration for the show. I think was this the sole bring you can get besides the Holden ads Nathan? Come on Cuz!
Now you will give to forgive the gorilla-styled screenshots because I couldn`t do anything to the onDemand player to get them, so relieve the shitty quality of the screenies!
Wow I can distinguish you start off that the kids are sooo enthralled to see a rapper (or a pacific Island person knowing Otago) when they clearly voiced out their antipathy towards hip hop within the first 5 seconds. To Savage`s credit hip hop is not all about booty shaking, crime committing, spray painting, collateral damaging, misogyny rapping, over glamorizing, material driven, By product of a genre_.oh no, its better than that, however with Wild and crew expect all of that and a bag of chips.
I think we got kids that are into metal, pop and rock, the Rugby captain is into Garth Brooks, one of the girls is an accomplished pianist, heck one wants to be an aspiring actress. I really don`t see the aim of having Savage come in and turn the leave of these kids to becoming fans of hip hop. I think the composition is on the fence and the just thing is that when they achieve adulthood maybe they will heed to hip hop and extend their order in tastes, because I see aught wrong here Savage_.do you?Oh well better get to the_.sort of favorite episodes from this point thus far huh. Well the premiere episode didn`t give me jumping out the place in glee, it was boring! It`s expected for the beginning to be exciting and wowful; I think we give to get acclimated to these students if we`re alleged to make a damn about them as they did with their new substitute teacher Mr. Savage sir! God these kids are almost as cumbersome as penguins and the balance of the programming is like water torture at a sludge pace! And speaking of awkward, that is what your mouth muscles is gonna go through_.cringing and wincing especially how white bred these Otago high school kids are when they do freestyle rapping. I mean sure they`re not MC Hammer level of okay but arrive on you`re starting to make Vanilla Ice look well in comparison! To further elaborated on the 1st episode Savage wanted to see the kids_.um swagger and boy what a wild train wreck of an example still to the point Savage started swearing at the kids for being stiff up lips! Yeah wayto teach our impressionable kids about the ill conceived ways of swagger Savage.by swearing at them! I mean who the hell wants to be with you in New York, you`re an embarrassment to our country sir!
Juno (the token Asian kid) had the affectation and quirks of male Charlyne Yi, I make you not! This guys looks and acts almost exactly like Charlyne Yi. Separated at birth_? You decide!
The Second episode sees the kids working with fallen hip hop Icon Scribe_awwwww faced I soo went there. Yeah I say fallen because have you heard Rhyme Book from scribe? Nope?_neither did his fans, so he is complete to teach kids how to rap and get a dismal failure!Probably the best highlight from this episode which I had to fast advancing to was when one of the students (Caleb I think) quoted:
`Music is like lollies_.you can give off the Rappers`
I don`t know if that was written or intentional, but Scribe did take offence to it which he didn`t find assuming nor funny, but hey the kid has an impression to say the least!
Besides learning to (ahem) rap and freestyle, the kids get to see how to dance hip hop with renowned chorographer Tui Manual who looks a little frumpy in appearance as of late especially in this episode. Frumpy-ness aside she did play well with the kids so I pretend to this show`s credit they do get people who can run with children and teens better.
Transplant to that we pass to the 3rd episode which had them working with Askew, artist and graffiti writer which I really loved; it`s only a pity that it had to be done this program.
Askew was well versed in teaching kids around the story of graffiti despite the resistant Head Master who didn`t need his walls covered with graffiti art_that`s right art not tagging you old coot! Plus I had to give it to him, he taught them good enough that they did see on and did an impressive piece as the end result. He actually has a hang for teaching kids around the positives of Graffiti art, if but he taught that silly baby boomer old coot a matter or 2!For some reason I keep giving this show praise but in actuality it shouldn`t be. Okay Savage I will have you the benefit of the question that you`ve successfully sold 2 million units of `Swing` in America, but honestly you`re just pandering to the American market by rapping in an American accent and playing like a African American.Heck King Kapisi did precisely the like matter that you did, but it was with honest intentions promoting local NZ Hip Hop with a native Pacific tongue and its pretty boisterous of you to be called The Godfather of Hip Hop when Damn Native and Upper Hutt Posse deservedly be named that_not you.I`ll fillet my summary about this show_.its sucks. It`s unoriginal, it`s pandering, forceful, a stupid waste of both metre and tax payers money, plus it`s on a Nation Owned network TVNZ and if you don`t know TV2`s illustrious record of localized reality show's shelf life, its goes stale very quickly!Seriously if you compare how many seasons of New Zealand`s Next Top Model (despite being a franchise) and Making Tracks (a show we`ve reviewed recently) on C4 that is out there to let`s say The Apprentice NZ, by comparison Mediaworks outweighs TVNZ!Honestly there is not going to be a 2nd season of any reality based TV show broadcasted out of TVNZ because their formula in making TV is whack. Sure this is a nice timewaster in the weekend to pan out whatever is on a 5pm (mostly fishing shows) Saturday afternoon, but don`t kid yourself. Also this is a rip off to `Ice-T's Rap School!Hello_plagiarism anyone? Heard of the term? Also we should stop buying into Dawn Raid Entertainment`s bullshit. I think it`s already enough they went into liquidation in 2007, their consistent product they sell is simply atrocious copying of America Black Culture and its fucking Dawn Raid. STOP GIVING THEM SECOND CHANCES THEY HAVE HAD ENOUGH!Overall this is just garbage and wasteful at that. Please stop giving Dawn Raid Entertainment any more chances of a promotional vehicle and for god sakes someone give Nathan Rarere a fucking job!http://www.dawnraid.co.nz/http://tvnz.co.nz/hip-hop-high/s1-e1-video-3892550

Probably the first tell tale signs that this is a shit show is the fact that it`s hosted by Savage, a gruesome reminder as to why NZ Hip Hop has jumped the shark with his predilections to African American culture, in other language `HE IS NOT Fatal IN MANER!` Again he is a Polynesian, not an African American.
