STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - An Arden Heights man who was imprisoned for his office in a savage 2003 beating is second behind bars, accused of attacking and stressful to rob a stripling of his cell phone yesterday afternoon.
Jonathan Gardell, 24, of Arden Avenue, faces a lot of charges after police say he confronted a teenage victim at the box of Richmond and Lamoka avenues in Eltingville at approximately 12:45 p.m.
He told the teen, "Give me your phone," and when the teen refused, Gardell pushed him to the ground, punched him in the face, and fled, police allege.
Police found Gardell a few minutes later, and the victim identified him as the assailant, authorities said.
Gardell in 2005 was sentenced to a class in gaol for his office in the gang beating of Salvatore Monforte III in a melee at the Annadale station of the Staten Island Railway.
The victim, then 16, was pummeled into a coma by a bunch of teenagers on May 11, 2003, in an alleged turf dispute between South Shore and Mid-Island youths.
Gardell now faces charges of attempted third-degree robbery, attempted fourth-degree grand larceny, attempted petit larceny, attempted fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, attempted third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, according to William J. Smith, a spokesman for District Attorney Daniel Donovan.
