Caliga Ortus - If knowledge is power, clandestine knowledge is .

Harry flipped through the pages in face of him another time, eyes darting from call to name, skimming over the name of places and the times they were used. It was an interesting file containing information that, if true, would be monumental in the discernment of several witches and wizards who were suspected of a plurality of offenses. His green gaze rose to looking at the man sitting across his desk, for the man look like he hadn`t handed over a document that could serve the MLE close at least a dozen open cases.

The final time Jonathan Savage had been in Harry`s office, it had been to ream the Department head on saddling him with an auror trainee. Harry watched the Senior Auror brush something from his trouser leg before dark eyes looked to him expectantly."You`re sure of this?" Harry had to ask, glancing down at the file again."Of course I`m sure," Jonathan said, resisting the impulse to let annoyance filter into his tone. He`d spent the best piece of the last six months compiling the data in the lodge the Boy Savior was reading. He`d watched things, horrible and ugly things, in the request for that information, and he`d be blamed if the youngest Department Head the MLE had always seen doubted its validity."Who else knows about this?""No one." That was a lie, of course. He`d not had a detailed treatment of the activities outlined in that charge with Gwen, but she knew as often as he`d told her and as often as her sharp intellect had been capable to deduct on her own. Potter didn`t want to experience that, however. He trusted Gwen completely and without reservation, something that had been more than a bit shocking to discover, and he knew she`d never do anything to sell him to the men whose names were included in the document.Even while tortured she`d keep his intentions shadowed. She was the strongest woman he`d ever met and the pure faith he had in that statement made her inclusion in this conversation inconsequential. No one else knew that Jonathan Wild was a member of the Pureblood Elite and had been gathering intelligence on their dubious, and sometimes murderous, machinations and inner workings. He`d get to Hassle with the data in the hopes that they`d be capable to do something, and the much younger wizard suddenly felt inadequate for the job placed before him.He had seen, first-hand, what this case of data could mean. When Snape had been catching for Dumbledore, the messages Snape had been capable to give had saved lives, averted disaster. Dumbledore had always been one pace ahead, knowing precisely what to do with the intelligence, had ever known what way would be best. Harry was no Dumbledore. He couldn`t promise that he`d be capable to make the right decisions on what process should be taken, and when. The sobriety and burden of the site was heavy. And, on top of that, was the health and well-being of the person acquiring and funneling the data back to him. Snape had ever been alone, had never had anyone close to him. Spying, and all the potential dangers, had been accepted readily and knowingly. Had he been killed, it only meant that he`d been ground out and taken charge of.Jonathan, Harry knew, was life with Gwenog Jones. If the pictures he`d spied on the face of rag magazines were correct, there was likewise a child involved. There were others in this man`s life who could be damaged if his double-crossing came to light. It made the site still more unreliable and volatile."If anyone were to get out you had passed this data to the authorities-""I love the dangers, Potter," Jonathan interrupted, voice even. He didn`t want to be reminded that everyone he loved would be in peril if his charge was discovered. He lost enough sleep over the fact as it was. "I likewise recognize the ramifications if these men were to prove to still more powerful stations than they`ve already built, ramifications that would impact the entire wizarding world. As selfish as I am, even I can see that the underlying threat is outweighed by the reward of these men`s businesses coming to an end.""Are you certain that no one suspects you?""Their world is good of suspicion, but I was elevated to meet this part. If my mother were alive. well. he`d probably see right through me actually. He`d never believe I`d willingly walking into that man when I`d left it, and my inheritance, behind. One more reason it`s a serious thing he`s dead, I suppose."Jonathan`s tone was joking, but it was generally the truth. His mother would never have recognized his assimilation back into the Elect without suspicion, and wouldn`t have kept his doubts to himself. The man had always been closer to his `friends` than his son and if he`d suspected Jonathan in the act of spying, he`d have had no problem letting his son read the full punishment for such a betrayal.Harry nodded, glancing down at the file again. He knew the risks Savage had taken giving him this information. Despite the parallels to the situation Dumbledore and Snape had found themselves in, and the inadequacy Harry felt at such a similarity, he knew this was the case of news he couldn`t ignore."An unbreakable vow would be best, but if you`d care to maintain this just between us -""- that would be preferable, Potter, yes.""- then you`ll only have to believe that I will maintain your interest in procuring this information completely confidential."Jonathan nodded as he stood, smoothing his tie down the look of his button-up. "I wouldn`t have brought it to you if I suspected you were subject of turn on me. If what people say is true, you don`t have betrayal in your build. Besides, if you were to get me killed, you`d have Gwenog Jones to do to. You think battling Voldemort was hard?" He snorted, tossed Harry a pointed look, and made his way from the Department Head`s office.Harry watched Savage leave, a bewildered depend on his face. He`d have imagined the scene up of a clandestine spying arrangement would be more. involved. That the Senior Auror had only get in and acted like it was the most normal matter to declare and record into. Before he really realized what he was doing, he was out of his office, brushing past a questioning Aaron, and standing in face of a door marked `Kingsley Shacklebolt - Senior Auror`.He rapped on the glass quickly before sticking his mind in the door. "Kingsley?" The dark-skinned man looked up at Harry questioningly. "I`m going to be going backward in the area starting next year.""Have you passed the physical testing?""Yes.""And you`ve been reenlisted as `fighting` in the Auror registry?""I`m on my way to do that right now." I knew I`d forgot something!"Alright."Harry blinked in surprise when Kingsley simply nodded and turned back to the case-file sitting before him. He stood there for a few more seconds, waiting to be told it wasn`t possible, but no cry of dissent was raised. As he shut Kingsley`s door, he lost the smirk that curled the other man`s lips.Perfect. He`d been stressed over revealing his plans for months now, and it had all for no reason. Kingsley and the ease of the Aurors could probably care less that Harry was passing to be back in their ranks, except that it would mean having one extra body to rotate into the weekend and holiday working pool.Rolling his eyes at his power to completely muck things up for himself - how many times had he slept, exhausted, in his position because he`d worked himself so firmly in the preparation room? - Harry made his way backwards to his office.Despite wanting to charge himself, part of him was thrumming with excitement. Starting January 1, he was binding on active Auror duty.Summary:Jonathan informs Harry of his plans to gain data on the Pureblood Elite, and Harry informs Kingsley he`ll be back as an active Auror soon.
