Explore Howard: Savage: 'Walk Through Bethlehem' brings Christmas .

With the coming holiday season, the First Baptist Church of Savage will be putting on their annual outdoor Christmas play, "A Pass Through Bethlehem."

This three-night production will be held Dec. 17-19, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each night (weather permitting). The members of the church have put on this outdoor play as a role for sharing the true significance of Christmas.

In preceding years, more than 150 people have looked up to the sky for the faint that guides their walk through Bethlehem as members of the church try and copy what Bethlehem might have been like during the sentence of Jesus' birth.

After their walk through Bethlehem, community members will make a deeper understanding of what Mary and Joseph might have experienced as they made their way into Bethlehem and Mary gave birth to Jesus.

For most of us, the holiday shopping has begun. If you need to love a small holiday music and get some unique gift ideas, why not stay by the Historic Savage Mill? The Mill Shops offer some great gift ideas and some unique items for those hard-to-buy and not so hard-to-buy people on your list. During your shopping experience, the Factory will be hosting some special musical groups who will be putting shoppers in the shopping mood with several kinds of musical numbers.

On Saturday, Dec. 11, the Joint Venture Quartet will do from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 12, Larry Scott will perform pop, standard and wind music from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

The Factory has planned extended shopping hours to aid shoppers this season Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A particular handle for children will be the puppet show, "Rufus the Red-Nosed Rain Dog," which will be performed Dec. 18, from noontide to 12:30 p.m.

Families should set their calendars for the coming events and love some holiday spirit while shopping at the Historic Savage Mill.

Due to the approaching holidays, the Savage Historical Society will cancel its December meeting. The next scheduled meeting is Jan. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. in the Religion and Ministry Center (at the recession of Foundry and Baltimore streets). The subject for the January meeting will be, "The Movement to End Child Labor at the Cotton Mills," presented by Carolyn Adami, the society's vice president. For info around the historic society, call Helen Rushing at 301-725-1241.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Kim Duvall celebrating on Saturday, Dec. 11; to Josh Duvall celebrating Tuesday, Dec. 14; and to Jay Rushing celebrating Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Happy birthday and happy anniversary wishes go out to all of my readers celebrating during the coming week.
